No, they can't do the last octave below 20Hz but they can do a solid sub 30Hz in the average room. This is a time aligned loudspeaker with a 3rd order Linkwitz Riley crossover, with a true transmission line loaded bass system.

Acoustic Zen is a company well respected and known for their solid value in the Audiophile community. I consulted with Mr Lee on the SE project until it finally went into production. The Adagio loudspeaker needs no introduction, with cutting edge technologies and solid audio principals in design that brought forth a loudspeaker that has won various awards in over 5 different magazines and 2006 loudspeaker of the year.
Polyfoil Capacitors
We found a way to improve upon a already stellar product with a minimum of added expense .By implementing these huge custom built (see picture) Polyfoil capacitors, used in several critical areas, the crossover has been tweaked ,and a resistor upgrade which improved upon it's impedance curve for the tweeter which is now more linear and open, even the bass has bit more drive and snap.
The sound stage is now bigger, the focus is also deeper and the clarity and separation of the individual instruments is also outstanding, also due in part to the underhung voice coils being used which lower any distortions many times more than most companies out there. Expensive, yes, but well worth the effort.
From the Sweet highs from our custom Kapton ribbon tweeter to the lightening fast articulate bass from our ceramic sandwich midwoofers in a true transmission line cabinet. "We challenge any company in the 7k price category or less to match the overall naturalness and musicality from 30hz- 30khz." Not to mention a very efficient 89db, and a very easy to drive benign 6ohm load, which works well with as little as 25wpc for Vacuum tube or 40wpc Solid State. Last but not least take a look at our beautiful real wood veneer cabinets, from a figured cherry to a burr maple with over 5 coats of lacquer in a tapered boat tail cabinet with 5 different cabinets to choose from and at no additional cost! Please note: Unfortunately all original model Adagios cannot be retrofitted due to the time constraints involved and cost plus the potential damage shipping. It is still an excellent loudspeaker as you already know. There are currently companies out there retrofitting the crossover boards if you consider this an absolute priority. You can obviously resell your original pair online at places such as Audiogon, or Ebay. We are currently offering an excellent opportunity for your efforts towards the purchase of a pair of Adagio SEs, this also applies to cables if upgrading.
